There are people we encounter in our lives that no matter what amount of time have them, they make a profound impact on us. They change our daily lives and make us better individuals. Through my experiences and by simply being my true self, I’ve come across several people from all walks of life.
When I first moved to San Luis Obispo, I found myself without my family. After my father passed a way, the idea of family became even more foreign to me. I met not only a family member in my friend, Christine Fazio, but I met someone that would forever change my course and give me hope that in order to progress in life, all you have to do is make tomorrow’s version of yourself better than the version you are living today. She taught me that when you find kindness and love in someone, you cherish it. People will come and go in our lives and no matter what, hold on to the ones who have always been there and don’t let others change your heart.
Christine Fazio is one of those Angels who live among us. She is the epitome of kindness and giving and genuinely caring about the world and making it a brighter place for all of us to live. She is that kind of spirit, that when she enters a room, there’s a glow that radiates. I’ve known her since I moved to San Luis Obispo and in my heart, I know I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have had the opportunity to know her.
When I told her about my dream of starting “Candles for Kids,” as she did with everything that I shared with her, she encouraged and supported me. The love and support that I never received from others who should be there to support, I was given unconditionally from Chris.
Whether it was someone’s Birthday, Christmas, New Years, 4th of July, graduation, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, Thanksgivings some monumental craft sale you were making items to sell at a Vets Hall, or writing a script to make a musical about your own life. Perhaps it was making music lists to make your party amazing, buying a huge frame for you to sing into, always encouraging you to do what’s right but supporting you if you aren’t able to, makes sure every holiday known to man isn’t spent alone, when your pet dies is the first one to send you a card or come to your work twice a week and only sit in your section and always supporting and encouraging you. These are the days Chris went out of her way to make special for everyone around her. How does one ever put into words the amount of thanks and love to show this amazing woman?
Chris came along and showed me that it’s never to late to allow that kind of love in your life. Sometimes when something so wonderful comes along and is right in front of us, we lose ourselves in thinking it is the past repeating itself and it’s too good to be true. I’m here today to tell you that it’s not too good to be true and that everything I’ve been given and accepted in my life is better because I have known Chris Fazio. She has shown me the beauty in this world that I never knew existed. I know in my heart that angles exist because Chris is alive.
I would never have had the courage to establish “Candles for Kids” if I hadn’t met Chris Fazio. I find it only fitting that I honor Chris Fazio and show her how very important and loved that she is for being the kind of person who gives the world such beauty by the simple fact that she is a part of it. It’s because of Chris that I’ve had the courage to be here today. Therefore, I dedicate my organization, “Candles for Kids,” to my good friend Chris Fazio. This gesture is a mere fraction of all that she gives to this world, to kids especially. It is with great pleasure that I, as the creator and President of Candles for Kids, add the name of Chris Fazio as our honoree. She is the reason we are established today and embodies all that we stand for. Thank you Chris Fazio!
